The air de cour, an emblematic genre in the seventeenth century, is today considered as one of the major forms of French vocal music. Artistic influences from Italy and Spain during the reigns of Henry IV and Louis XIII stimulated the interest of the greatest composers at the court. Thus, Gabriel Bataille, Etienne Moulinié and Antoine Boesset wrote and published airs in Italian and in Spanish that are among the most beautiful and most original of this important corpus.
