Musical journey through Baroque Europe

Artistic relations between Italy, France, England, Germany and Spain were of unprecedented vitality during the Renaissance and in the 17th century. Innovations in writing techniques gradually revolutionised the music of these countries, each adapting them to their own cultural identities and practices: this journey allows us to appreciate the variety of colours in the repertoire for viola da gamba consort in Europe and to hear how each nation both imitates and invents itself at a key period in the history of modern art.
