This programme is also a continuation of our interdisciplinary collaboration with the world of theatre, as it echoes the last of our three 'young audience' shows entitled 'Fanny and Felix'. This show is a fictional portrait inspired by the biography of the Mendelssohn siblings, one of the most endearing in the musical world of the 19th century. In the course of the story, we discover the strong link between the Mendelssohn family and the Schumann family, through musical extracts from quartets by Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann. The latter dedicated his three quartets to his friend Felix.

In addition to these two monuments of 19th century music, we have also commissioned a contemporary Belgian composer to write music for us. After Jean-Luc Fafchamps' piece "Lust auf sehnsucht" based on Schubert's Lieder, premiered in 2019, we have commissioned Patrick Leterme to write a central piece for this new album in connection with the other two quartets. As an established Walloon composer, we thought it was very appropriate to call on his eclectic creative talent, which is close to the artistic vision of the Alfama Quartet. The support and contribution we make to the promotion of contemporary music is particularly important to us.
