Diana Baroni

A musician straddling two worlds, of Argentine origin and now based in Europe, Diana Baroni is one of the most renowned and sought-after Baroque singers and flutists of her generation.

Born in Rosario, on the banks of the Río Paraná, she studied several instruments from childhood before devoting herself entirely to the transverse flute. In Buenos Aires, she forged her artistic identity through musical theatre productions at the Teatro Colón’s Experimental Centre. Straddling contemporary music and the classical repertoire, an eclectic career began to take shape.

Based in France since 2002, she is a founding member and principal flutist of Café Zimmermann. Diana Baroni now belongs to the generation of great performers who emerged from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.

Her recordings, devoted in particular to the instrumental works of Johann Sebastian Bach, are now regarded as definitive in the field of historical performance, both by the specialist press and within the early music world. With Café Zimmermann, of which she is the principal flutist, she has received the most prestigious accolades from international critics.

Her artistic curiosity leads her to explore new horizons. At the crossroads of multiple musical languages, Diana Baroni ventures into traditional and contemporary music through a range of captivating hybrid projects. She devises creations that defy categorisation and produces albums that breathe new life into the Latin American repertoire, celebrating sensuality, dynamism and creativity.

Alongside exceptional artists such as Ronald Martin Alonso, the Brodsky Quartet, Tunde Jegede, Simon Drappier and Jasser Haj Youssef, her work blends the inventiveness of contemporary music with the richness of South American folklore. Constantly seeking new fusions, the musician sets no limits on her exploration of music, its treasures and its boundaries, much like a seasoned traveller.

On stage, Diana Baroni performs at numerous festivals and prestigious venues: Innsbruck, Ambronay, Saint-Denis, Prague, the Théâtre de la Ville, the Théâtre des Abbesses, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Brucknerhaus in Linz, as well as beyond Europe — in China, Japan, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil and several African countries.
