La Symphonie de Poche

An arranger-composer with varied musical influences, Robin Melchior likes to mix genres and sounds. His eclecticism and his mastery of instrumental writing have led him to produce orchestrations, arrangements and compositions for many artists and institutions. His work ranges from the symphonic repertoire (Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Les Siècles, Ensemble Aedes, Orchestre des Pays de Savoie, Opéra de Rennes, etc.) to film music (Quatuor Debussy, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, ONDIF, Yellow Socks Orchestra, etc.), including electro, variety and traditional music (Orchestre National de Metz, Un violon sur le sable, Trio Sora, etc.) For a long time a guide-lecturer at the Musée de la musique and currently a professor of writing and orchestration at the CRR of Créteil, Robin Melchior considers mediation and transmission as essential elements of his activity as an artist. Convinced by the power of collective practice to bring people together, he is deeply involved in the Démos project. He is also the founder of Pixelophonia, a sympho-rock ensemble dedicated to video game music; it is with passion that he has offered his qualities as an arranger, teacher and conductor for many years to unite the public and the orchestra in energetic and participative performances, at the Stravinsky Auditorium in Montreux as well as at the amphitheatre of the Opéra Bastille. Since 2015, Robin Melchior has been one of the main arrangers and composers of the Symphonie de Poche, an atypical ensemble that places creation at the heart of its artistic project, by revisiting orchestral music (Chabrier, Debussy, Ravel, Gershwin, Bartók...), songs (Bourvil, Boris Vian) or even cabaret (Francis Blanche, Kurt Weill) in a daring manner. For this ensemble, of which he is also artistic advisor, he conceived the symphony-tribute "Beethoven, si tu nous entends" on the occasion of the bicentenary of the composer's birth: the work was premiered at the Philharmonie de Paris in January 2020. The eponymous album was released that same year and received the best reviews from the press and the public.
