François Salque cello

A graduate of Yale University and the Paris Conservatoire, François Salque won awards at an early age in international competitions (Geneva, Tchaikovsky, Munich, Rostropovich, Leonard Rose...). The “sensitivity and nobility of his playing” combined with “charisma and exceptional virtuosity” (Pierre Boulez) won him no fewer than 10 first prizes and as many special prizes.
His concerts have already taken him to over seventy countries, and his solo and chamber music recordings with Eric Le Sage, Alexandre Tharaud, Emmanuel Pahud and Vincent Peirani have been hailed by the press (Diapasons d'Or de l'année, Chocs du Monde de la Musique, 10 de Répertoire, Prix de l'académie Charles Cros, Victoires de la Musique, “Citizen jazz”, BBC Palme d'Or...).

François Salque has also made seven acclaimed recordings with the Ysaÿe Quartet, of which he was cellist for five years. His commitment to the music of our time has earned him numerous dedications from contemporary composers, including Thierry Escaich, Karol Beffa, Jean-Baptiste Robin, Nicolas Bacri, Jean-François Zygel, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, Krystof Maratka and Bruno Mantovani. He is also the creator of many new works, mixing contemporary inspirations with traditional music, and has recorded two particularly original duo albums with jazz accordionist Vincent Peirani.
