Nicolas Cousin marimba

Nicolas Cousin began studying piano and percussion at the Conservatory of Angers before continuing his education at the CNSMD in Lyon, where he earned a master's degree in 2013. Passionate about the stage from a young age, he performed a piano concerto with orchestra at the age of 10. He later turned to percussion, joining the orchestra of David d’Angers High School, with which he embarked on his first international tours.

In 2011, he co-founded Trio SR9, which won the International Percussion Competition of Luxembourg in 2012. With this ensemble, he has performed around the world: in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, China, and across Europe.

Deeply passionate about orchestral music, he regularly plays with prestigious ensembles such as the Paris Opera, the Orchestre National de France, the Capitole de Toulouse, the Lyon Opera, and the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, among others. From 2011 to 2019, he was a performer with the Kahlua Company in the show Black Box.

He also forms duos with pianist Hélène Desmoulin and violinist Elissa Cassini, with whom he premiered Cycles by Armando Lobo. Curious and versatile, he has collaborated with O Vertigo, participated in the Colmar Festival, and appeared in Philippe Béziat’s film Noces.

As an educator, he gives masterclasses in France as well as at institutions such as Juilliard School, Boston Conservatory, NYU, and Pleven.

He is also the co-founder of the L’Eze Harmonies Festival, established in 2022 in the medieval village of Èze.
