Éric-Maria Couturier cello

 

French cellist born in Vietnam Éric-Maria Couturier is one of the most sought after for contemporary repertoire. He is also a complete artist in music chamber and classical repertory.

As a soloist, he played the cello concerto of Haydn, Dvořák, Eötvös, Merlin, Saraariaho, Kurtág. Yann Robin wrote and dedicated to him the piece Quarks, they toured with Orchestre de Lille, Orchestre symphonique de Tokyo, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
Through his experiences from Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National, Orchestre de Bordeaux and Ensemble Intercontemporain, he had the chance to play under the baton of the greatest conductors as Boulez, Solti, Sawallisch, Giulini, Maazel, Mälkki, Nott and Pintscher.

After his studies with Christian Ivaldi, he won first and special prizes with the pianist Laurent Wagschal in Trapani in Sicilia, second prize in Trieste, and third prize in Firenze. They made a recording dedicated to French music with Fauré, Magnard and Poulenc.
He played soloist and chamber music at Belaye, Roland Pidoux’s festival, who was his teacher in Paris Conservatoire. 

He is member of Talweg trio with his partners Sebastien Surel, violon and Romain Descharmes, piano.
They recorded pieces of Ravel, Turina and Tomás Gubitsch to whom the trio commissioned the piece.
They will record soon Franz Schubert trios.
They have played on the main stages of Europe festival like Philharmonie de Paris, Maison de radio France and in Suisse, Italy, Belgium.

For music chamber, Éric-Maria Couturier also played with Maurizio Pollini, Shani Diluka, Juliana Steinbach, Jean-Claude Pennetier, Roland Pidoux, Raphaël Pidoux, Tabbea Zimmermann, Isabelle Faust, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Ayako Tanaka, Jaewon Kim.

He is cello teacher assistant at Conservatoire de Paris, and is asked to give Masterclasses and workshop on contemporary repertoire and improvisation to young student.
He conducted for many years orchestral sections at Lucern academy festival as coach and gave many masterclasses.

He played with the jazz singer Helen Merril, David Linx and Laika Fatien. Improvised with the DJ ErikM and Jeff Mills.
He participated to the two last recordings of Jean-Philippe Viret Quartet.
