Trio Zadig

Bound together by a shared vision of music and deep friendships, Trio Zadig has taken the international scene by storm. Winner of eleven international awards, this magnetic ensemble effortlessly commands attention with its virtuosity, elegance and infectious spirit that permeates every performance. Masterfully creating a blend of contemporary splendour and daring, they invite audiences on a fascinating exploration of musical depth, texture and harmony. The magic of Trio Zadig lies in the fusion of their individual talents and their undeniable synergy, a reflection of their shared passion and unwavering dedication to their craft.

Miclen LaiPang, a violinist hailed by the New York Times as 'a force to be reckoned with', brings his worldly experience and dynamic energy to the ensemble. Marc Girard Garcia, a graduate of the Paris Conservatoire, imparts a nuanced artistry to the cello that shapes the Trio's authentic sound. Pianist Ian Barber, a protégé of Andre Watts at Indiana University, brings a musical sensibility that enriches the Trio's interpretations with depth and texture.

Named after Voltaire's character Zadig, who embodies 'justice' and 'truth', Trio Zadig translates these virtues into their performances. Menahem Pressler, of the Beaux Arts Trio, has described them as "today's finest musicians", pointing out that the Trio Zadig comprises "three extraordinarily gifted instrumentalists and, at the same time, true musicians in constant research".

Their reputation is reinforced by numerous awards, including the prestigious Fnapec 'Musiques d'Ensemble' first prize - a path previously taken by such renowned ensembles as the Quatuor Ysaÿe, the Quatuor Ebene and the Trio Wanderer, the latter of whom described Trio Zadig as possessing 'superb artistic and technical qualities'.

Eminent institutions such as the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, the Fondation Singer-Polignac, the ProQuartet association and the Académie Musicale de Villecroze have recognised them as "associate artists" or "resident artists".

Trio Zadig has left its mark all over the world, performing from the United States to Taiwan in such renowned venues as BOZAR, the Shanghai City Theater, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Philharmonie de Paris and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Their interactions with renowned artists such as Alfred Brendel have significantly enhanced their musical maturity.

Their social commitment goes beyond their successes. They frequently bring music to schools, hospitals and prisons, demonstrating their dedication to the community and the transformative power of music.

Their repertoire ranges from Haydn to contemporary composers, refreshing the trio genre with boldness and freshness. Poetic sound, depth and sincerity characterise their performances, signifying a future as adventurous and enduring as their namesake. Their discography includes three critically acclaimed CDs: 'Something in Between', 'The Seasons' and 'Orpheus', which have won them such accolades as the 'quatre f' from Télérama, the 'coup de cœur' from Classica and Figaro, and the 'CD of the day' from France Musique.

Miclen LaiPang plays on the ex-Grumiaux J.B. Vuillaume c.1850, with a bow by D. Peccatte. Marc Girard Garcia plays a cello by Frank Ravatin, generously loaned by the El Pasito association.
