The disc opens with a sparkling account of Mercé di voi, mia fortunata stella (By your mercy, my lucky star) from Strozzi’s First Book of Madrigals. Listening to Alice Duport-Percier and Axelle Verner, you’re struck by both the intensely characterful singing and the real dramatic energy behind the words. An easy flexibility to the voices adds to a proper sense of amorous dialogue. One of the more frequently recorded numbers here, it allows comparison with a number of other interpretations and comes out streaks ahead.
