Trees of life

Like a tree whose many roots are anchored and draw their energy from different fertile soils, Canticum Novum has been growing, intensifying and opening up to new human and musical adventures for many years. In this anniversary programme, the ensemble celebrates the notions of rootedness, generational transmission and shared identities, and pays tribute to the links forged and the deep attachments created over the past 25 years.

Simone Weil's words resonate as a matter of course: 'Rootedness is perhaps the most important and most ignored need of the human soul. It is one of the most difficult to define. A human being is rooted by his real, active and natural participation in the existence of a community that keeps alive certain treasures of the past and certain presentiments of the future. [...] Every human being needs to have multiple roots. He needs to receive almost the totality of his moral, intellectual and spiritual life through the medium of which he is naturally a part.
