Franz Schubert
1828 – « The last year »
Zachary Wilder, tenor
Arnaud Thorette, viola
Johan Farjot, piano
In 1828, the final year of his life, Franz Schubert composed some of his most moving works. This programme explores this period of exceptional creative intensity.
The luminous voice of tenor Zachary Wilder blends with the warm tone of Arnaud Thorette’s viola and the sensitive playing of pianist Johan Farjot in rare works: Auf dem Strom, Herbst, Die Sterne and Glaube, Hoffnung und Liebe, in which Schubert explores the landscapes of the soul with deeply moving intensity.
The world of the Winterreise cycle (1827) surfaces in this inner journey, whilst the famous Arpeggione Sonata (1824) offers a moment of great poetic beauty. The concert concludes with Die Taubenpost, the final song published in Schwanengesang, in which Schubert entrusts to a messenger dove the word that runs through his entire oeuvre: Sehnsucht, the ardent longing for the unattainable.
