The Night

The Night

The night is one of the strongest themes of Romanticism. Indeed, this fascination with the night is linked to a love of mystery and dreams. At night, all the unreal visions can take hold and all the evils of the day can be forgotten. Night can also be associated with a symbol of the decline of human life. In this case, twilight represents the last gasps of existence. Many nineteenth-century composers took an interest in the theme of night, including Schumann in his Nachstücke, Chopin in his Second Funeral Sonata and Nocturnes, and Clara Schumann in her Soirées musicales. A nocturnal world so sparkling and touching.
