Hypnos
Program for his next album for Naïve (release date: October 2026)
In Greek mythology, Hypnos, son of Night and twin brother of Thanatos, embodies sleep. Gentle and mysterious, he lulls gods and men to sleep, guiding souls to that fragile realm where consciousness dissolves and dreams are born. This ancient figure resonates deeply with the world of Romantic composers, for whom music is often a passageway to the intimate, the unconscious, and the inexpressible.
The figure of Hypnos, god of sleep and brother of dreams, hovers over Romantic music.
In Chopin's nocturnes and his funeral sonata, the melody becomes a breath, a lullaby suspended between wakefulness and abandonment. In Robert Schumann's work, the imagination springs forth, oscillating between his inner voices, between reality and dreams. The works of Clara Schumann, with their ardent and luminous poetry, reveal the intimate side of dreams, where confidences become music. Finally, in Brahms' intermezzi, twilight becomes meditative tenderness. Together, these romantic voices paint a picture of the realm of Hypnos: a space for contemplation and reverie.
