Building peace through music, beyond borders.
Music is a universal language that transcends peoples, cultures and differences. It has the unique ability to bring people together, evoke powerful emotions and foster a sense of unity. Throughout history, music has played an essential role in healing wounds and defending peace.

In recent history, music has been an essential element of humanist movements. Pablo Casals' Birdsong, Joan Baez's rendition of We Shall Overcome, and Steven Spielberg's famous Schindler's List have become universal anthems. On 15 January 1941, the first performance of Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time – a project initially conceived for propaganda purposes by the commander of Hitler's prisoner-of-war camp in Görlitz – resulted in one of the most illustrious and memorable musical events of the 20th century. During the First World War, Lucien Durosoir, playing on a makeshift violin, was asked by General Charles Mangin to form a chamber music ensemble with André Caplet on viola and Maurice Maréchal on cello.

Thus, throughout the ages, musicians have used their talents to promote peace and raise awareness of the consequences of violence. Note by note, these artists have offered comfort, hope and a sense of solidarity that transcends borders.
