Floresta do Amazonas (the Amazon rainforest)
Adventure stories set in the heart of the forest are fascinating, and in 1912, the young Villa-Lobos, aged 25, wanted to confront his senses with this strange immensity, to experience the soul of the forest of forests. Once engulfed in the jungle, the young musician was spellbound. Everywhere, unexpected sounds arise: the cry of a new animal, the rhythms of plants, a veritable symphony. Everywhere, the pulse of the forest. The inspiration for melodies is extraordinary. In such a universe, Villa-Lobos feels like a sound explorer. In the Amazon, all sounds are permitted. This excess resonates with the project he will pursue throughout his life: to bring together all the music of the young Brazilian nation, a young but immense nation whose independence coincides, to within two years, with the year of his birth.
