Birth of a King

Louise Bourgeois was one of the first midwives to describe her profession at the beginning of the 17th century : she was a midwife for the poor people, the nobility and the bourgeoisie, and was also the midwife of Marie de Medicis for the birth of Louis XIII. In a frank and pearlescent language, full of humour, she describes this experience, as common as it was extraordinary, at the heart of the intimacy of Marie de Medicis and Henri IV, as well as in the front row of the writing of the History of France.
