Quartet Story

Concert with commentary

A short musical history of the string quartet

Composers have always regarded the string quartet as their secret garden, an intimate space in which they deliver the very essence of their writing.
In "Quartet Story - la p'tite histoire du quatuor à cordes en musique", the Quatuor Leonis presents an anthology of extracts from the most significant works in the history of the string quartet, covering almost two centuries of music (late 18th - late 20th century).
Each extract is presented in a lively and well-documented manner by the members of the quartet.
A unique opportunity to travel through the ages and meet the great composers who have shaped the history of music!

Quartet Story comes in a variety of forms:

Quartet Story "Classic": a programme focusing on the classical period (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven)

Quartet Story "Romantic": a programme focusing on the Romantic period (Schubert, Brahms, Schumann...)

Quartet Story "20th century": programme focusing on the 20th century (Debussy, Ravel, Bartok, Shostakovich, Dutilleux...)

Quartet Story "A la carte": we work with you to create the theme and programme from A to Z.

The Quatuor Leonis have pulled off a double Eclisse totale in the run-up to Christmas in the Orne region (France). Join them at the Halle aux Toiles in Alençon this Sunday December 22nd at 11am and again at 4.30pm!

Armed with diplomas from the most prestigious conservatoires in France and the rest of the world, and having spent over 10 years touring the classical music scene, the 4 musicians of the Leonis quartet will spend 1 hour in a veritable musical eclipse, carried away by their wheelchairs, playing and dancing at the same time, tightrope walkers on their strings, in a burlesque and poetic universe.

In an atmosphere worthy of the greatest rock stages, the show ends with the audience on its feet and conquered, proof that classical musicians too are sometimes capable of unleashing passions. Halfway between Philippe Genty and the Quatuor, Manu Kroupit's crazy world, like the moon obscuring the sun, will transform these classical angels into music-hungry wolf garocks.
