Trio SR9
PERCUSSION TRIO
Organ and Percussion
With organist Samuel Liegeon
This programme brings together organist Samuel Liégeon and the SR9 Trio in an exploration of the links between the grand structures of Johann Sebastian Bach and the repetitive worlds of Steve Reich and Philip Glass. Across the centuries, these musical works converge in their relationship to rhythm, the momentum of movement and the richness of resonance.
In this original ensemble, the timbres of the percussion instruments extend and transform the organ’s colours. The works respond to one another, revealing unexpected affinities between Bach’s contrapuntal writing and the repetitive motifs of the American composers.
The programme is further enriched by the participation of students from a percussion class, who are involved in this collective musical experience and the discovery of these repertoires.
