Éric-Maria Couturier violoncelle
He is currently a soloist in the Ensemble Intercontemporain in Paris, specializing in contemporary music and improvisation. He holds a Master Degree in Cello and Chamber Music from the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique in Paris, where he studied with Roland Pidoux, Igor Gavrich, Christian Ivaldi, and Leon Fleisher.
His orchestral experience includes a tutti position in the Orchestre de Paris, and later, the third solo position in Orchestre National de France, and the Principal solo position in the Orchestre National de Brodeaux. Through this he is familiar with all of the classical repertoire.
With cello and piano duo, he has received Top Prices and Special Honors in international chamber music competitions of Trapani, Trieste, Florence. He has also appeared as soloist with orchestras playing the Dvorak, Eotvös cello concertos, and Kurtag double concerto.
He has had the chance to work with many of the most important conductors of our time including Solti, Sawallisch, Giulini, Boulez. He also has extensive chamber music experience, performing with artists such as Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Maurizio Pollini.
