Alexandre Esperet marimba

During his studies at the conservatories of Avignon, Créteil, and later at the CNSMD of Lyon in the class of Jean Geoffroy, Alexandre won several international competitions: 1st Prize at the Cannes Marimba Competition in 2008; Audience Award and Dr. Glatt Prize in the finals of the Geneva International Competition in 2009; 1st Prize, Audience Award, and Press Award at the Tromp Percussion Competition in Eindhoven in 2012. He co-founded Trio SR9 in 2012.

His curiosity has led him to explore other artistic disciplines such as theatre and dance. A highlight of this was his collaboration with Compagnie Arcosm from 2011 to 2014 for the show Traverse, which was performed worldwide. In 2010, he co-founded the company Kahlua with his friend Matthieu Benigno, creating Black Box and a piece entitled Ceci n’est pas une balle, published by Éditions Alfonce and performed in over 20 countries.

Since 2016, he has been a member of Les Percussions de Strasbourg, with whom he premieres works by contemporary composers such as Thierry de Mey, Alexander Schubert, and revives major classics of the repertoire, including the iconic Pléïades and Persephassa composed for the ensemble by Iannis Xenakis.

Alexandre regularly performs as a soloist internationally (USA, Canada, Brazil, Japan…) and collaborates with major ensembles such as the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Sō Percussion, and the Britten Sinfonia. He also premieres works by composers like Nico Muhly and Karl Naegelen.

A passionate musician, he shares his experience through masterclasses and clinic-concerts in Boston, Montreal, São Paulo, Kawasaki... He was a guest professor in The Hague in 2015, then at the CNSMD of Lyon in 2018–2019, where he was appointed assistant professor in 2021.
