Paradaia

A l'ombre des jardins d'Orient

The Persian garden, a coherent, structured whole, seeks to express and represent the harmony between cultural and natural environments, between man and nature. An enclosed and mysterious place that stimulates the senses, the Persian garden of yore was an invitation to rest, meditation and pleasure, revealing the invisible potential of natural resources.

In Ottoman Turkey, the art of gardening underwent an extraordinary development, the memory of which has come down to us mainly through the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. During grandiose receptions, sometimes held at night, the splendour of Ottoman court life was never far from expression, and music from East and West resounded along the paved paths lined with ponds, orchards, fountains and kiosks.

Paradaia invites you on a journey to the frontiers of ancient and traditional music. Echoes of Persia, Turkey and Europe mingle with the music of the singers and instrumentalists of the Canticum Novum ensemble.

Like a tree whose many roots are rooted in different fertile soils and draw their energy from them, Canticum Novum has continued to grow and intensify over the years, opening itself up to new human and musical adventures. In this anniversary programme, produced to mark the ensemble's 25th anniversary, Canticum Novum celebrates the notions of rootedness, generational transmission and shared identities, and pays tribute to the bonds forged and the deep attachments created over these 25 years.

Join them on Thursday December 19th at 8pm at the Théâtre Copeau at the Saint-Étienne Opera (FR).
