Canti di Gioia

To think of Aleppo is to marvel at the millennia-old history of one of the oldest known cities, one of the most resilient, one of the most cosmopolitan and polyglot; but it is also, by that very fact, to have a heavy heart to consider how the most recent era was able to sweep away, in a few years of abominable civil war, this melting pot of cultures, languages, religions and communities whose varied musical expressions, gathered here, are the result of the long, magnificent and tormented history of a city with a unique destiny.
