Mendelssohn - Dvorak
MENDELSSOHN Trio n.1 in d minor
DVORAK Trio « Dumky » , Op. 90
Three soloists join forces for this concert to perform two major works from the romantic piano trio repertoire.
A romantic work par excellence, Felix Mendelssohn's Trio No. 1 was premiered in Leipzig, with the composer at the piano. Robert Schumann, enthused by the work, wrote: 'This is the master trio of our time, as Beethoven's and Schubert's were of their time'. *Ed Fayard
The "Dumky" Trio, the last one written by Dvorák, is composed of six dumky pieces called Dumka I, II, II etc. Inspired by Slavic songs, its romantic expression is by turns melancholic and dizzying, dreamy and declamatory.
Premiered in Prague in 1891, also with the composer himself at the piano, the work was a great success. Dvorák played it during the 40 concerts of his farewell tour.
