Josephine Baker/Paris mon amour

Arnaud Thorette & Johan Farjot, direction

The Ensemble Contraste & Magali Léger bring back to life the myth of the unforgettable Josephine Baker!

Drawing their inspiration from the extraordinary concert given at the Olympia in 1968, the ensemble Contraste rediscovers the magic complicity between Josephine Baker and her audience.

This show is a tribute to the career and life of this great american singer and lead dancer, who became French in 1937. She was also a great figure in the resistance during World War II and used her popularity to fight against racism and to emancipate black people.

Considered as the first black star, muse of the cubists and supported by the Parisians’ enthusiasm for jazz and black musics, Josephine Baker won the Parisians’ and French people’s heart…

Ghislaine Borie, Magic Orange Plastic Bird, Novembre 2019
