French romantic music is full of marvels combining the voice with stringed instruments and piano. Violins in the evening by Saint-Saëns, at the Elegy by Massenet or After a dream by Fauré, the Ensemble Contraste imagined an intimate and poetic concert combining original works and original transcriptions by their care: The evening by Gounod, The death of Ophélie by Berlioz ... All the spirit of French music of the second half of the 19th century is united in this original and poetic program. Sublime texts, the voice and the chamber music are intertwined here.

(...) La voix de Karine Deshayes s'ancre dans les profondeurs chaudes, pour mieux se déployer, précise, limpide et riche avec une apparente facilité. La diction se fait narration fluide, au service d'une interprétation sensible et tempérée, parfois latente. La tessiture de la mezzo-soprano et son agilité enveloppante se font douces et protectrices, replongeant dans l'esthétique du siècle dernier, en grande cohérence avec les instrumentistes. Le piano précis et impalpable vient tempérer la profondeur du violoncelle, plus acerbe et vibrant, tandis que les airs du violon percent les aigus avec finesse.
L’Ensemble Contraste (à géométrie variable) est ainsi représenté ici par ce trio instrumental, dont la liberté de jeu sert la versatilité des instruments et des styles : la légèreté plus vive des instruments fait contrepoint avec les déceptions amoureuses dont traitent les textes et rappelle que cet ensemble s'intéresse aussi aux contrastes sentimentaux dans diverses esthétiques (de la musique classique au tango en passant par la comédie musicale, le jazz et la création contemporaine)
