Jean-Sébastien Bach (1685-1750)

Julien Chauvin joins forces with Trio SR9 for a wild Baroque programme!

Bach may not have known the marimba, but it's easy to imagine that he would have been delighted to compose for it, having constantly adapted and transcribed his works for different instrumental formations! It's an unusual encounter between the percussive and bewitching sounds of the marimbas played by the virtuoso Trio SR9, who released a remarkable disc entitled ‘Bach on the marimba’ on Naïve a few years ago, and the period instruments of the Concert de la Loge. From Bach's Triple Concerto BWV 1044 to various transcriptions, this concert is proof that this music lends itself to every possible combination.

Trio SR9 joins singer Kyrie Kristmanson for a concert with the Venus Rising program as part of the Présences Compositrices festival this Friday, April 25th at Abbaye de la Celle (FR) at 8pm!

“Women must write themselves: women must write of women, and bring women to writing, from which they have been as violently estranged as they have been from their bodies.” It was with these words by Hélène Cixous in mind that Trio SR9 and Kyrie Kristmanson built this new “Venus Rising” repertoire. How have women composers set their sacred and/or profane bodies and desires to music over the centuries? Together, they aim to bring to the fore a repertoire made up exclusively of works by women, spanning eight hundred years of musical writing, from Baroque, Classical and Romantic melodies to the music of today. Venus Rising criss-crosses the ages through original arrangements carried by Kyrie Kristmanson's voice and the various percussion instruments of Trio SR9: marimba, vibraphone, glockenspiel and prepared piano.
