PERCUSSION TRIO

Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis

The Trio SR9 returns to the origins of sound and rhythm. Percussion is one of the oldest and most fundamental forms of sound production in music. It is present in almost all civilisations around the world and dates back thousands of years. The birth of percussion can be traced back to the first primitive percussion instruments, which were made from natural materials such as shells, bones, stones and wood.

In this programme, they imagine a rich array of sounds - wood, glass, metal, skins... - to revisit a selection of works from the classical music repertoire. Throughout this concert, sound serves as the common thread. We hear familiar instruments such as the marimba and vibraphone, but also raw materials, like a return to the most ancestral vibrations, right down to the bone.

This programme spans the ages: from Baroque music with Jean-Philippe Rameau, where the contrapuntal elements are fully animated by this percussive orchestra, to French music with Claude Debussy and Lili Boulanger, where the glasses bring a new interpretation and a certain poetry through their resonances, American composer John Adams, where the rhythmic work takes on a very special meaning with the echoes between marimbas and vibraphone, and finally a melancholic work by Polish composer and pianist Hania Rani, which the trio reveals here with great gentleness and delicacy.
