PERCUSSION TRIO

Bach & Percussions

Bach & Percussions

After ten years of touring and a first CD dedicated to the music of Jean-Sébastien BACH, the Trio SR9 continues to explore this vast repertoire.
In this latest instalment, they rediscover works for keyboard, with the Sonata No. 3 in D minor and the Concerto in A minor for organ, as well as works for violin, with the Partita No. 3 in E Major, and excerpts from the Well-Tempered Clavier, performed on percussion keyboards.

With their marimbas and vibraphone, the musicians of Trio SR9 appropriate the essence of Bach's music to convey a new energy and interpretation. Through transcriptions by Rachmaninov, Schumann, Bach himself or those of the SR9 Trio, this programme highlights the rhythmic and percussive character of his music, while blending a bewitching and poetic universe. It reveals even more of the richness of the percussion keyboards and the Cantor's timeless writing.

Angus Mc Pherson, Limelight, Mai 2019

Alain Cochard, A Nous Paris, Mars 2016

A Nous Paris, Janvier 2014

The works are linked to each other by the "Perpetual Canon" of L’Offrande musicale, presented in different forms as an almost mysterious link. It is both a tribute to Bach's absolute masterpiece and a unique moment to discover the harmonies born by the fusion of the three marimbas with endless evocative possibilities.

After a festive album release at the Café de la Danse earlier this week, Le Trio SR9 & Kyrie Kristmanson will be stopping off at Théâtre Les Transversales in Verdun (55) to play their Venus Rising program on Thursday March 28.

Here's what Pierre Lamy had to say on Qobuz this week: (...) "But above all, it's a story of sonic craftsmanship, and ultimately, of an immense and magnificent aesthetic shock. With their crazy instrumentarium of prepared piano, screeching strings and tuned water glasses, the boisterous boys of Trio SR9 and Kyrie Kristmanson's bewitching kitten voice take us to an otherworldly place from which we'll never want to return. Yes, it tickles, it disturbs, and Grégoire Letouvet's sophisticated arrangements may confuse some, but therein lies the true freedom of tone. And the quartet's freedom is most inspiring. It's palpable, it's felt and it's held, this music fully alive for the present time."
