The musical bond between Camille Saint-Saëns, Gabriel Fauré and Germaine Tailleferre is based on personal and artistic relationships that have left their mark on the history of French classical music.

Gabriel Fauré was a pupil of Camille Saint-Saëns at the École Niedermeyer and was profoundly influenced by his master's teaching and support throughout his career. They subsequently enjoyed a lasting friendship and a rich correspondence that lasted sixty years.

Germaine Tailleferre was the only female member of the Group of Six, a group of composers influenced by Erik Satie and Jean Cocteau who sought to free themselves from the influence of German music and late Romanticism. Although Tailleferre had no direct teaching relationship with Saint-Saëns or Fauré, the latter, then director of the Paris Conservatoire, supported her by encouraging her to devote herself to composition, although she had initially dreamed of becoming a pianist or painter. She was an important figure in the French neoclassical movement, as was Fauré in his time.
