"Never before had I seen a face in which the passion of gambling gushed forth, so bestial, in its brazen nakednesś. I was fascinated by this face, which suddenly became sullen and extinguished as the ball settled on a number" says Mrs C. "This man had just lost everything. He dashed out of the casino. Instinctively, I followed. And so began the 24 hours that would change my destiny."

In 2023, Encore Music decided to produce a recording of the very first musical adaptation of one of Austrian writer, playwright, journalist and biographer Stefan Zweig's masterpieces, Twenty-Four Hours in the Life of a Woman.

Almost one hundred years after its publication, Twenty-four Hours in the Life of a Woman continues to hold its appeal for readers. The short story offers exceptional material for Sergei Dreznin's original score, and for the libretto by Christine Khandjian and Stéphane Ly-Cuong, a wide palette of colors and emotions to match its heroine.

To interpret this original score, Encore Music has brought together a quintet featuring singers Isabelle Georges and Frederik Steenbrink and the Trio Zadig, winners of 11 international awards.
The arrangements, by Cyrille Lehn, offer the Trio and the singers a faithful setting for this dazzling, unforgettable passion, this raw emotion that hides beneath the masks, this timeless story of love and abandonment, despite social conventions.

On stage, the work will be presented as a secular oratorio. The pieces, sometimes instrumental, sometimes sung, will be punctuated by excerpts from the Nouvelle.
