Ensemble Irini

The Ensemble Irini returns to its origins by revisiting the medieval Marian repertoire with a 100% female ensemble. Far from a disembodied and diaphanous image, it is on the contrary the image of holy bacchantes that INVICTAE (‘undefeated’) summons. It is a question of putting flesh, movement and life back into the heart of the praise of the most iconic and transcultural divine female figure in the world. The six female voices of the Ensemble Irini, directed by Lila Hajosi, accompanied and set in motion by the dancer and choreographer Faustine Aziyadé, in a mise en espace by Aïda Gabriëls, sing without restraint, use their bodies as percussion, and draw a language parallel to the music that comes to express in flesh the transcendental love for the ‘Roÿne celestre’ and her ‘blessed entrails’.
