Tapanak - Full version of the show

Canticum Novum - Tapanak Théâtre du Parc February 2020

As an "arche" welcoming the diversity of our cultures, our instruments, our melodies and our temperaments, Tapanak, Canticum Novum's new young public creation, takes us to the slopes of Mount Ararat, where a long time ago, an ark was stranded. The castaways tell us then, their new land of welcome.
This musical tale enriched by a video creation invites us to discover the repertoire of melodies of these lands of exchange at the confluence between East and West, through the exploration of the learned and popular music of Armenia, the Balkans and the near east of the end of the middle ages.
Tapanak, տապանակ, means the Ark in Amerian.

About Tapanak by La Louce (video creation):
Being together. Imagining a horizon. Navigating. Holding on. Approaching a new shore. Watching. Discovering. Tasting. Loving. Building. Sharing. When a myriad of beings with all forms of feathers, hair and skin discover a new universe, there are so many places, niches, spaces, things that they smell, taste, breathe, touch, catch, detect. Through a mobile scenography made of figurative surfaces and removable projection supports, light reveals spaces and creates the possibilities of a sensitive universe in which musicians will be transported.

Like a tree whose many roots are rooted in different fertile soils and draw their energy from them, Canticum Novum has continued to grow and intensify over the years, opening itself up to new human and musical adventures. In this anniversary programme, produced to mark the ensemble's 25th anniversary, Canticum Novum celebrates the notions of rootedness, generational transmission and shared identities, and pays tribute to the bonds forged and the deep attachments created over these 25 years.

Join them on Thursday December 19th at 8pm at the Théâtre Copeau at the Saint-Étienne Opera (FR).
