Clémence Niclas Voix et flûtes

Clémence Niclas is one of those artists whose voice conveys more than just sound; it conveys memory, commitment, and a vision of the world. After training at the CNSMD in Lyon, where she obtained a master's degree in recorder in 2019 and a second in early music singing in 2023, she developed a dual artistic voice there that she has continuously expanded and diversified.

A soprano and recorder player, Clémence moves between centuries and aesthetics, forging intimate connections between ancient repertoires, contemporary creations, and theatrical innovations. Her warmly timbred voice, full of light and depth, bursts onto the stage with rare expressive intensity.

With her ensemble, ApotropaïK, she fervently explores medieval repertoires and boldly reinvents them. The ensemble, winner of several international awards, is now in residence at Royaumont, a place of listening and research that aligns with her approach. She also sings with the De Caelis ensemble, taking a sensitive approach to medieval polyphonic chant.

Her practice is not limited to interpretation; she creates living forms permeated by breath, movement, and voice. With Compagnie Rassegna, she performs in the baroque-electro opera Qui-Vive!, an unclassifiable project at the intersection of different languages. She plays with La Chacana, directed by Pierre Hamon, and La Nébuleuse, a baroque ensemble led by Gabriel Rignol, where she is a featured soloist. In 2024, she participated in Charpentier's opera David et Jonathas, playing the role of a warrior under the direction of Sébastien Daucé with the ensemble Correspondances.

Clémence creates, imagines, and directs. She and percussionist Lou Renaud-Bailly created a show for young audiences called Lubulus et Alaïs, which toured throughout France for two years. Her solo piece, Surgie d'un autre temps, combines the recorder, voice, and poetry to create a chiaroscuro narrative and a journey of intimacy and memory. Currently, she is collaborating with choreographer Justine Bertillot as a solo singer for a performance combining body and voice (Mermaids, 2026).
