The Curious Bards

Since 2015, The Curious Bards has brought together musicians with a love of Gaelic, Celtic and Scandinavian-influenced traditional music from the world of early music and the prestigious conservatoires of Lyon, Paris and Basel. 
Each of them has, for several years now, been integrating traditional Irish, Scottish, Norwegian and Swedish music into his or her practice and professional career.

An ensemble that aims to be rigorous in its research, innovative and creative in its musical intent. Modern-day bards with a spirit of discovery and a demanding practice, they create a sound marked by the authenticity, warmth and contagious energy of traditional music.

In 2015, The Curious Bards received support from the Cité de la Voix de Vézelay as part of its young ensemble programme, and in 2016 they were selected for the EEEmerging project run by the Ambronay Festival.

Since 2020, The Curious Bards has received the support of Caisse des Dépôts as its main sponsor.

Since 2017, the ensemble has released two CDs on Harmonia Mundi of 18th-century Irish and Scottish repertoire: ‘Extradition’, followed by ‘Indiscretion’ in September 2023 and soon ‘Sublimation’ in January 2025. Since 2024, the ensemble has been a member of FEVIS (Fédération des Ensembles Vocaux et Instrumentaux Spécialisés) and REMA (Réseau Européen de Musique Ancienne).
