Jean-Christophe Morel cistre
Jean-Christophe Morel began his musical education on the violin at Robert Papavrami's Pierre Rode school. He entered the Bordeaux Conservatoire in 2001, in the class of Manuel Solans, where he furthered his violin studies. He then entered the Lyon Conservatoire in 2009, simultaneously studying with Marie Charvet, Claire Bernard and Nicolas Gourbeix. Strongly influenced by traditional Irish music, the last few years have been marked by intense practice of this repertoire, particularly during his first year of the Master's programme, when he took advantage of an Erasmus trip to Dublin.
The music passed down orally and the practice of improvisation have enabled him to develop a unique and original artistic personality, opening him up to a wide variety of musical styles and even to other instruments: cistre, guitar, mandolin, etc. He plays regularly in Irish ensembles such as The Jeremiahs, Onde and The Curious Bards, as well as in classical training with the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine and the Orchestre du Capitole.
