The Curious Bards

Since 2015, The Curious Bards has brought together five musicians exploring 18th-century Northern European folk music with a unique approach combining rigorous musicological research and infectious energy. Trained at conservatories in Lyon, Paris, and Basel, these passionate researcher-musicians have immersed themselves in the world of Northern European music, seeking to rediscover and reinterpret ancient repertoires while adding their own modern and creative touch. With more than 250 concerts and three albums released by Harmonia Mundi (Extradition, 2017; Indiscretion, 2023; Sublimation, 2025), the ensemble has established a unique identity: a scholarly tradition boldly reinvented, for music that is both profound and joyously alive.
