Trio Arnold

Shuichi Okada was born in Bordeaux in 1995 and began playing the violin at the age of five. He received his early training at the Bordeaux Conservatoire with Stéphane Rougier before being unanimously admitted, at the age of just 15, to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he studied with Roland Daugareil, Suzanne Gessner and Christophe Poiget. He subsequently continued his studies at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin with Mihaela Martin, and at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel with Augustin Dumay.

A laureate of numerous prestigious academies—including the Seiji Ozawa Academy in Switzerland, the Carl Flesch Academy, where he received the Stennebrüggen, Carl Flesch and Ginette Neveu prizes, and the Santander Festival—Shuichi has also distinguished himself in several international competitions. He won Second Prize at the Postacchini Competition, First Prize at the Ginette Neveu Competition, and First Prize as well as the Outstanding Personality Prize at the Mirecourt Competition. More recently, he received awards at the Lipizer Competition in Gorizia, the Fritz Kreisler Competition in Vienna and the Markneukirchen Competition, where he won Second Prize. He was also awarded the “Prince of Hessen” Prize during the Kronberg Academy masterclasses.

These distinctions have led to solo appearances with numerous orchestras, including the Avignon Opera Orchestra, the Weimar Hochschule Orchestra, the Nancy Symphony Orchestra, the DFO at Salle Pleyel, the New Europe Chamber Orchestra, the Baden-Baden and Vogtland Philharmonic Orchestras, the Orchestre de Normandie, the Toulon Opera Orchestra, as well as the orchestras of Bayonne, Pasdeloup, Biel, Wallonia and the Consuelo Orchestra.

Shuichi is also a regular guest at renowned festivals, including the Gstaad Menuhin’s Young Artists Foundation, the Aix-en-Provence Easter Festival, La Roque d’Anthéron, the Ozawa Festival in Matsumoto, Les Folles Journées in Nantes and Tokyo, the Deauville Easter Festival, the Radio France Montpellier Festival, the Orangerie de Sceaux and the Palazzetto Bru Zane. He has shared the stage with artists such as Renaud Capuçon, Jérôme Ducros, Michel Strauss, Raphaël Pidoux, Jean-Claude Vanden Eyden, Peter Frankl, Philippe Jaroussky, Claire Désert, Antoine Tamestit, Lise Berthaud, Itamar Golan, Jean-François Heisser, Stéphanie-Marie Degand, Gérard Caussé, Augustin Dumay, Gary Hoffman, Miguel da Silva and François Salque.

He has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, Salle Pleyel, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Salle Cortot, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Philharmonie de Paris (Pierre Boulez Hall), Fondation Louis Vuitton, Bozar and Flagey in Brussels, Cité de la Musique and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.

Shuichi is a member of the Arnold Trio, alongside cellist Bum Jun Kim and violist Manuel Vioque-Judde. The trio is currently in residence at the Fondation Singer-Polignac.

He has recorded several critically acclaimed albums. His first recording, featuring works by Brahms and Schumann with pianist Clément Lefebvre, was released by Mirare. He subsequently recorded Brahms’s Quintets and Sextets for B Records with Pierre Fouchenneret, Lise Berthaud, Adrien Boisseau, François Salque and Yan Levionnois; Schubert’s Octet and a work by Raphaël Merlin for Alpha; as well as a recording of French melodies with I Giardini and Véronique Gens, which received a Choc de Classica, a Diapason d’Or and a nomination for the Victoires de la Musique Classique. The Arnold Trio’s first album, devoted to Beethoven and released by Mirare, was also awarded a Diapason d’Or. More recently, he took part in Fuga Libera’s complete recording of César Franck’s chamber music, alongside musicians including Jean-Claude Vanden Eyden, Augustin Dumay, Miguel da Silva, Gary Hoffman and Jonathan Fournel.

Shuichi is supported by the Fondation Safran, l’Or du Rhin and Banque Populaire. He plays a Francesco Goffriller violin generously loaned by the Adelus Endowment Fund.
